A small server with friends who speak different languages

The classic setup: a few friends, two or three languages, one shared chat. Everyone writes the way they always do, and every message gets a translation underneath in the other language.

You need

Add the bot

Invite itAdd to Discord

Pick your server. Keep every permission ticked: the bot needs them to read and post.

Set it up with buttons/setup

Choose the server language and which channels translate. Only you see the screens.

Translate both ways in your chat

Add the first language/channel translatelanguage: Englishchannel: #general

Messages that are not in English get an English translation.

Add the second language/channel translatelanguage: Spanishchannel: #general

Now English messages get Spanish too. A message is never translated into its own language, so each person only sees the other side translated. Free: 2 languages a channel; Server plans: 8.

Only there, or everywhere/server autotranslatemode: Only configured channels (/channel translate)

Leave it on All channels if every channel should translate into the server language.

Make it yours

Keep nicknames as they are/glossary addterm: Nightfalltranslation: Nightfall

Names, in-jokes and game words stay exactly as written. 3 terms free. See Keep names and terms exact with a glossary.

Tell your friends the tricks

React with a flag to translate one message, or right-click it for a private translation. See Translate with a flag reaction.

Example, with demo names
M
Maja
Alguien juega esta noche?
DT

Is anyone playing tonight?
A
Alex
Yes! At nine?

Translator BOT
Si! A las nueve?

Check it works

If something is off

Nothing is translated in a brand-new server.
A new server first listens to its first messages to learn its language. /server languagelang: English sets it at once, and translation starts with the next message.
One channel stays quiet.
The bot translates only where it can see and post: give it View Channel, Send Messages and Read Message History there. /server view lists anything that needs doing.
Some messages are skipped.
Messages already in the target language are left alone, and so are posts by other bots and messages under 2 characters.
