The Translator Activity: everyone hears the call in their own language
A bot has one voice in a channel, so in a 20-person call it would make everyone hear every language. The Translator Activity gives each person their own: open it in the call, or on your phone with one earbud in, and you hear what the others say translated into your language. Only you hear it.
You need
- Captions running in the call (someone with Premium starts them, see Live captions and spoken translation in a voice channel). Listening itself is for anyone in the call.
Start listening
Two buttons, only for you: Open my listen page for your phone or a browser tab, and Open inside Discord for the Activity in the call.
Press Open inside Discord while you are in the voice channel. The Translator Activity opens in the call and signs you in.
Open the link with one earbud in. It is yours alone and lasts 12 hours; /listen gives a fresh one. Do not share it: it plays whatever call you are in.
On the page
It starts in your language. Switch any time.
Choose callouts only to hear just the short orders. See Callouts for raids and game nights.
Turn on hearing your own words too, to test it on your own.
Everything on buttons
Captions, listening and callouts, all as buttons and menus.
Check it works
- The page shows the call you are in. Say something (or ask a friend to): the translation plays a couple of seconds later.
If something is off
The page says I am not in a call.
Nothing plays.
The Activity does not open.
